Description

To perform paraprofessional library services in a large size branch library, or an administrative unit and related work.

Library Technician IV is the highest level of the series. Under general supervision, incumbents are involved in training staff and acting as a resource person for branches in a designated region or unit, category 4 or 5 (categories are established based on a combination of population served, circulation for the library and the square footage of the library), and/or directly supervising paraprofessional work of a highly technical or complex nature.

Essential Functions:

Supervises, organizes, directs and coordinates the work of a large number of paraprofessional and clerical personnel in Resource and Regional Library branches; category 4 and 5.
Coordinates work with other departments, divisions, or outside vendors.
Participates in departmental meetings and discussions concerning organizational and procedural problems and solutions.
Makes recommendations and follows-up with facilities staff regarding repair and maintenance of library facilities.
May support the Facilities Analyst and the Principal Librarian to coordinate system-wide facility management.
Analyzes and optimizes workflow and facility appearance for maximum customer satisfaction.
Manages cooperative coverage plan for deploying staff to cover absences.
Supports system-wide circulation services.
May supervise and provide Books-By-Mail services.
May work with technical services managers in coordinating the workflow among the collection development, cataloging, circulation and interchange units.



Requirements

Education, training, and/or experience that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above. Qualifying education/experience: 


Five (5) years of full-time recent library work experience, three (3) years of which must have included primary supervisory and management work experience or progressively responsible work in a specialized field of library services in a library system comparable to the County of San Diego. 

Note:  A Library Technology certificate or an associate's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in Library Science is desirable.
