The Glen Ellyn Public Library is seeking a proactive and forward-thinking Young Adult Librarian to provide programming, reader's advisory and collection development services for teens and adults in a dynamic community of readers.

We are looking for a Candidate with:

  • An ALA accredited Master's Degree in Library Science or its demonstrated equivalent
  • At least one year of experience working with the public
  • Commitment to public service and services to teens and young adults
  • Experience in programming to teens and young adults
  • Demonstrated familiarity with adult and particularly young adult literature in a variety of genres, and non-fiction areas
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft 365 applications and the ability to learn the Glen Ellyn Public Library's Core Technology Competencies
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a productive team

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Providing direct service to the public at the information desk
  • Answering reference and reader's advisory questions from the public, in person, over the phone, and electronically
  • Assisting in training patrons in the use of the catalog, electronic, print, and audiovisual resources
  • Maintaining an active passport acceptance agent certification and executing passport applications
  • Preparing for, publicizing, and presenting programs for high school students, college age adults, and new adults
  • Acting as liaison to local high school students and new adults
  • Conducting book discussions for high school students and new adults
  • Supervising teen volunteers
  • Providing content for the teen portion of the library's web page
  • Participates in collection development activities, which include selecting, budgeting, and purchasing library materials for designated subject areas. Weeding and inventorying selection areas. Creating displays
  • Contributing articles to The Guide and creating content for the library website and social media 

Status: Full-time; irregular work shifts, daytime, evening and weekend hours; Exempt [FLSA]
