Shelver

We are seeking a detail-oriented and amiable individual with a flexible schedule to shelve materials at both Aspen Drive Library in Vernon Hills and Cook Park Library in Libertyville. This is a permanent, year-round position. The Cook Memorial Public Library District serve 61,000 residents from two full-service locations:  Aspen Drive Library at 701 Aspen Drive, Vernon Hills, IL and Cook Park Library at 413 N. Hours:

Averaging 14 hours a week. Flexibility in filling additional shifts desirable.

·         Mondays 8 am-12 pm

·         Wednesdays 10 am-2 pm  

·         Fridays 1-4 pm                  

On a 4-week rotation: (Premium pay on Sundays)

·         Week 2: Sundays 1-5 pm

·         Week 4: Sundays 9 am-1pm

Duties & Responsibilities:

·         Sort and load materials onto carts and shelve in proper location

·         Use computer to print lists of requested items

·         Retrieve items to fill holds

·         Shift collections as needed

·         Shelf read, ensuring materials are in correct order

Requirements:

·         High school diploma

·         Detail-oriented and good organizational skills

·         Familiarity with Dewey Decimal System

·         Ability to alphabetize and place items in call number order 

·         Basic computer skills

·         Strength to move library materials, bend, stoop, kneel, and reach shelves of various heights

·         Standing for extended lengths of time (3 to 5 hours)

·         Read small fonts and recognize colored labels

·         Must be able to work at both Cook Park and Aspen Drive Libraries

Salary & Benefits:

$14.00 per hour, 457 savings plan, paid time off and scheduled holidays, premium pay on Sundays. Cost of living and merit increases.

Note:  Minimum wage in IL changes Jan 1, 2025 and the hourly rate will be raised to $15.00
