The Elizabeth Taber Library in Marion, MA is seeking a dedicated and personable individual to fill a seasonal and per diem library assistant position. This position is ideal for an individual who is flexible and available to cover shifts when regular library assistants are unavailable due to scheduling conflicts, illness or other reasons.  Prior library experience is preferred.

Schedule: 1-4 on Sundays between October – May.  Other hours available as needed to cover shifts due to scheduling conflicts, illness or other reasons or to lend additional support during library programs and other special events.

Key responsibilities include;

 -  Assisting patrons with book recommendations, locating materials, and providing guidance on library resources and services, shelving and organizing materials

  • Engaging with patrons in a friendly and professional manner

  • Assisting with all aspects of circulation

  • Opening and closing procedures, handling small cash transactions, and maintaining accurate records

  • Upholding and enforcing library privacy policies, ensuring the confidentiality of patron information and adherence to all relevant guidelines

  • Providing basic assistance with library technology and equipment, including computers, printers, and online catalog systems.

  • Performing additional duties as needed, including preparing materials for programs, and assisting with library events.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience working in a library setting is preferred

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Strong organizational skills, and attention to detail

  • Flexibility and availability to work on short notice
