The Helen Plum Library is seeking an enthusiastic Library Assistant to join our busy Patron Services team! The right candidate will work well in a highly collaborative environment, provide top-notch customer service to patrons, be eager to learn, and have excellent communication skills. Candidate may also be asked to serve as a Passport Acceptance Agent if they meet the required qualifications.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Providing consistently professional, gracious, and friendly service to patrons and colleagues 
  • Performing circulation duties such as checking Library materials in and out, processing material holds, generating paging lists, pulling ILL requests, and shelving books as needed
  • Creating and updating library accounts for patrons, including verification of residency and collection of non-resident fees
  • Utilizing point-of-sale system
  • Processing monthly reports

**Qualifications: **

  • High School diploma or equivalent 
  • At least 1 year customer service experience
  • Previous library experience preferred, but not required
  • To serve as a Passport Acceptance Agent, applicant must meet the following qualifications:
    • Be a United States citizen or non-citizen U.S. national
    • Be at least 18 years old

**Hours: **22 hours/week; includes 2 evenings/week and alternating weekends

**Beginning salary: **$15.00-$18.72 per hour, depending on qualifications. 

$18.72 is the midpoint of the pay grade. Starting at or above the midpoint is reserved for candidates who exceed the minimum qualifications and have significant relevant experience.
