Library Services Specialist

Reporting to the Associate Director of Wardman Library, Library Services Specialists (LSSs) assist with daily access services operations (i.e., interlibrary loan, LINK+, circulation, and reserves) and also the creation and maintenance of ILS records for new acquisitions. Posted at the circulation desk, LSSs ensure quality service by overseeing interactions between Library Student Assistants and patrons, assisting with circulation when necessary, answering directional and technical questions, and referring more complex reference questions to librarians. LSSs coordinate the LINK+ and interlibrary loan requests and LSAs who page ILL and LINK+ books from the circulating collection. LSSs will respond and manage overdue and fines connected to circulated materials. The position also assists with the scanning and deposit of digital objects to the institutional repository. Finally, LSSs catalog newly acquired print books, and ensure that Library Student Assistants process new acquisitions well and in a timely manner.

Hours: Sunday-Thursday, 40 hours a week
Exempt Status: Non-exempt
Full Time/Part Time status: Full Time
Salary Range: $19.71-$20.09 hourly rate; Salary will commensurate with experience, skills, and knowledge.

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Oversees circulation desk operations and transactions, including related operations (e.g., opening and closing), keeping the desk and environs clean and in good order, and supervising the work of Library Student Assistants posted at the circulation desk.Coordinates the receiving and filling of LINK+ and interlibrary loan requests, including training and managing Library Student Assistants charged with paging materials from the circulating collection.
• Manages all aspects of overdue items (student, faculty, non-Whittier College) and billing for library fees (fines, replacements, and printing bills), including maintain communication with the Business Office on payment statuses.
• Collaborates with the Library Director and Special Collections Librarian on the digitizing and deposit of materials to the institutional repository.• Participates in the supervision of Library Student Assistants charged with processing new acquisitions, ensuring this work is completed efficiently and according to quality standards established by the Collections Management Librarian.

Knowledge and Education: BA or equivalent required; intention to pursue a higher degree in library science or related field preferred.
