Job Description

Ohio University Libraries seeks innovative and forward-thinking applicants committed to continuous learning to serve as the Research Services Scholarly Impact and Social Sciences Librarian.

Reporting to the Head of Research Services, the Research Services Scholarly Impact Librarian plays a critical role in advancing the University Libraries' strategic initiatives and fulfilling Ohio University's mission. This role involves providing scholarly impact support to Ohio University researchers, helping them analyze and articulate their research impact using both traditional and alternative metrics, and assisting with the promotion of their scholarly output. The librarian will collaborate with campus partners and department team members to support adherence to open data mandates, facilitate the dissemination of open data to the public, and provide guidance on open access publishing models. Additionally, the Research Services Scholarly Impact Librarian will serve as a subject specialist in the social sciences, providing instruction, reference, and consultation services to faculty and students in assigned academic areas. As a member of the Social Sciences Disciplinary Team, the librarian will help build sustainable collections that support the University's research and instructional needs.

Position Responsibilities

  • Partner with faculty and campus units to understand and promote the University's scholarly research impact using both traditional and alternative metrics. Provide consultation services, workshops, and guides to help researchers articulate their individual research impact.
  • Manage the integration and promotion of ORCID and other scholarly identifier programs on campus.
  • Collaborate with team members and researchers to support adherence to open data mandates and promote open access publishing models. Assist with solutions for hosting open research and data to the public, including through the OHIO Open Library.
  • Work with department members, library colleagues, and other University units to develop services, programming, and digital learning resources to support student research initiatives. Provide training on library resources and scholarly tools such as Zotero, NVivo+, SPSS, or other relevant applications.
  • Serve as a subject specialist for one or more academic areas within the social sciences, providing consultation, instruction, and reference services to faculty and students.
  • Collaborate with other members of the Social Sciences Disciplinary Team to build and maintain collections that support the curriculum and research needs. Contribute to providing basic instruction, reference, and consultation services to social sciences students.
  • Engage in regular professional development through research, publications, presentations, and participation in regional, national, and/or international professional organizations, contributing to the Libraries' best practices and innovative services.
  • Serve on Libraries committees, task forces, and other groups to help advance the Libraries' strategic goals.The Environment:

The Research Services Scholarly Impact Librarian will be a key member of a newly formed Research Services department within the Libraries' Division of Research and Education. This division, which includes Research Services, User Services, Learning Services, and Library IT, is in the second year of a reorganization designed to increase collaboration and advance forward-thinking library work. This restructuring allows for greater flexibility and efficiency in delivering services, emphasizing student- and faculty-centered initiatives that support student success and faculty research excellence. Further, this restructuring allows for greater flexibility and efficiency in the delivery of traditional subject librarian work such as collection development and traditional library instruction.

Ohio University recently earned the R1 classification in the latest Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, joining the ranks of the nation's elite research institutions. The Research Services Scholarly Impact Librarian will collaborate with other librarians to foster partnerships that support researchers at the highest level.

Minimum Qualifications - Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited school or from a library and information studies program accredited or recognized by the appropriate national body in another country. - Experience and/or training related to the life cycle or analysis of research data. - Demonstrated familiarity and/or interest in open access scholarship. - Knowledge of bibliometrics, altmetrics, and/or scholarly identifiers for analyzing scholarly impact. - Effective communication skills with the ability to work with a diverse range of constituencies. - Commitment to continuous improvement and professional development.Note: A bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years of full-time, directly related library experience in an academic library may be substituted for an ALA-accredited master's degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching or presentation experience.
  • Experience working in an academic library.
  • Demonstrated success with collaborative assignments.
  • Undergraduate degree or coursework in the social sciences.
  • Experience with collection management experience or coursework relevant to building and maintaining library collections.
  • Experience or strong interest in learning statistical packages to support scholarly impact analysis.Department Library

Pay Rate: The target salary for this position is $52,000 to $59,000 and is commensurate with the selected candidate's education and experience while considering internal equity.
