General Description

The Library Services Access and Building Manager is primarily responsible for the oversight and development of library access services, including circulation, stacks management, resource sharing (ILL), and course reserves. The incumbent, as Building Manager, also serves as an essential liaison between the library and the other units housed within the building, and to other departments on campus, including but not limited to Facilities Management and Campus Safety, as well as outside vendors and contractors. This position supervises Circulation staff (2) and student workers, and reports to the Dean of the Library.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Access Services:

  • Manage daily operations for Circulation, Course Reserves, and Interlibrary Loan services, maintaining coverage during all operating hours despite staff absences.
  • Supervise Access Services staff members by assigning duties, delegating responsibilities and providing regular performance reviews.
  • Lead recruitment, training, and scheduling of student employees within the unit.
  • Monitor the student worker account (including onboarding and timesheet approval).
  • Prepare and revise library staff schedules and building hours.
  • Address patron issues, solving problems when possible, to safeguard quality service.
  • Maintain up-to-date written policies and procedures for staff.
  • Triage reference/research requests, directing users to librarians as needed.
  • Work with staff to establish policies and workflows in the ALMA fulfillment system (including testing, and implementation of upgrades and changes)
  • Collect operations data: building traffic, circulation statistics, etc.
  • Develop and prioritize departmental goals and objectives; evaluate progress on their attainment.Building Manager:
  • Serve as Building Liaison with Facilities Management, Campus Safety, equipment and supply vendors, and service contractors.
  • Serve as the Emergency Building Coordinator by working with the Environmental Health and Safety Manager and keeping apprised of all new emergency procedures, policies, training classes, and evacuation drills.
  • Assume responsibility for the maintenance, ordering, repair, improvement, and security of the library building and its furnishings.
  • Monitor physical spaces to ensure that scheduled maintenance is being carried out.
  • Report building and security concerns to appropriate departments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent customer service skills, including both oral and written communication.
  • Must be able to provide all circulation desk services and manage complaints in a courteous manner, and to handle the stresses of public service.
  • Exceptional skills in organizing, prioritizing, and multitasking on a daily basis.
  • Experience formulating and consistently applying objectives and policies.
  • Experience with data entry, information retrieval, records management, and report generation.
  • Experience with productivity software, Alma Primo, Google Apps, and Banner.
  • A working understanding of the Library of Congress Classification System.
  • Some evening, holiday, and weekend shifts may be required.Required Qualifications
  • Three years of related experience, including some supervisory experience. Education can substitute for some experience.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Finalist applicants must satisfactorily complete pre-employment background checks.Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
