SALARY:

$74,650.57 - $104,481.74 Annually, plus Benefits

POSITION:

Under general direction the Regional Librarian supervises and coordinates the activities, facilities, and operations of an assigned library region, including reference and patron services, circulation activities and facility maintenance needs providing complex staff assistance to the Librarian Manager. The person selected for this position will act as a branch manager for a large regional library, oversee smaller branches in the library system, and will have significant supervisory responsibility over several different Library classifications.

IDEAL CANDIDATE: 
The ideal candidate will possess a Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution and be experienced and knowledgeable in working with diverse community residents, library users, and library staff; committed to delivering exceptional customer service, both internal and external; experienced in data driven analysis and evaluation; possess the ability to model respect, empathy, tact, discretion, and diplomacy; able to lead and take initiative through various projects; work independently; and have demonstrated experience working with Boards and City government.

PAYROLL TITLE: 

City Librarian

The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future Regular, (including Temporary, Fixed-term), Intermittent, or Extra Help vacancies for this and similar vacancies within Ventura Library Services. There is currently one (1) Regular vacancy for the East Region managing the Ray D. Prueter Library, Oak Park Library, and Albert H. Soliz Library (El Rio). Candidate will primarily work out of the Ray D. Prueter Library in Port Hueneme.

CLOSING DATE:

Continuous and may close at any time; therefore, the schedule for the remainder of the process will depend upon when we receive a sufficient number of qualified applications to meet business needs.

Requirements

EDUCATION, TRAINING and EXPERIENCE:

Comprehensive professional library experience and education which has led to the acquisition of the required knowledge, skills and abilities. These can also be obtained by the equivalent to a completion of a Master's degree in library science and two (2) years of professional experience in public service libraries.
 
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess, or be able to obtain and maintain, a valid California driver license.
  • Must be able and willing to work weekends and evenings.
  • Some experience leading or supervising a team. 

DESIRED:

  •  A Master's degree in Library Science
  • Experience with forming and fostering relationships with Boards and City government

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:

Work is primarily performed in an office environment, but the incumbent may be required to meet off site with staff or other governmental organizations, community leaders, and the public. May be required to work weekends and evenings.
