The Roger Clark Memorial Library in Pittsfield, VT is a library within a close-knit community that seeks an energetic and enthusiastic part-time library professional dedicated to providing educational, cultural, and recreational information and services for community members of all ages.

Our Mission: To be a multi-generational community center aiming to foster traditional, cultural, creative, current and technical literacy.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • A professional and friendly demeanor with all who enter the library.
  • A love of books, libraries, and helping others access the benefits of reading and other library offerings.
  • Ability to work independently and alongside other team members to carry out all of the tasks required to give excellent library service.
  • Ability to manage time, to set priorities, to be organized and communicate with other team members as needed, including the ability to shift focus from routine tasks to patron support and back.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with library patrons of all ages, trustees, volunteers, town officials and other staff members including the ability to deal tactfully, communicate effectively and maintain harmony within our community.
  • Ability and desire to respect the privacy of library patrons and the board of trustees.
  • Regular attendance pursuant to an agreed upon schedule of library open hours and related meetings with the board and other community members.
  • Demonstrable competency in the use of computers and other office equipment to accomplish library tasks including completing research for patrons.
  • Ability to comfortably work with children to encourage their use of the library.
  • Ability to complete physical tasks related to library activities and tasks, including lifting at least 30 lbs., stretching and bending.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Manage circulation desk operations, including check-in/out, maintain useful statistics, provide patron assistance, catalog new acquisitions and maintain catalog accuracy.
  • Process inter-library loan requests and track materials.
  • Collaborate with the board of trustees to research, plan and implement programs for all ages, including publicizing offerings and programs via the web, print and other media platforms.
  • Manage and regularly provide innovative content for the library website and social media platforms (Facebook and other sites) and publish a monthly newsletter in print (number of copies to be determined) and on-line.
  •  Keep current with developments in the library profession.
  • Participate in team planning and goal setting.
  • Upon request by the board of trustees, provide written reports of library activity to the board of trustees, the town and the state, including – collecting, reporting and analyzing library statistics.
  • Perform library-related work as required and by the board of trustees.

This position includes being at the library 15 – 20 hours per week, during daytime, evenings, and Saturdays with specific hours to be determined collaboratively between the library professional and the board of trustees. Compensation will be based on experience ranging from $15-$20 per hour.
