Departmental Mission:

As a key component for faculty and student success within the College’s Academic Services division, Learning Resources dynamically integrates library, tutoring, and learning success programs and services into one centralized department that supports the mission of developing and sustaining innovation in research, learning, and technology; fostering and supporting intellectual curiosity, academic independence, and student achievement; and establishing and nurturing strong partnerships and connections with students, faculty, staff, and the community.

Position Expectations:

Housed within a shared academic/public library setting, the Reference and Instruction Librarian at the St. Petersburg Gibbs campus collaborates with faculty and students, while also occasionally partnering with the connected public library, its patrons, and staff. As part of the greater goals of this position, the Reference and Instruction Librarian:

  • Plans and performs integral, cross-curricular on-site and online instructional support services, dedicated to building, implementing, and promoting an innovative and assessable research and information literacy education program;
  • Partners closely with faculty and academic departments to enhance students’ skills in finding, evaluating, and using research and information, while also promoting overall strategies for academic success;
  • Creates, curates and advocates for the essential use of library resources and tools to support the curriculum and foster student and faculty development;
  • Plans and advances impactful programming and events for both students and patrons; and
  • Makes lasting connections with the co-located public library, especially in regard to outreach services and offerings the College can provide to public patrons.

In addition, the position entails certain administrative duties when the campus Associate Director of Learning Resources is unavailable or needs additional assistance; therefore, the position requires leadership skills that include staff supervision, service management, and conflict resolution.

The position also requires a moderately flexible schedule, including a commitment to working at least one evening per week and occasional weekends.

**Position Summary: **

Incumbents perform professional librarian functions within a higher education setting.  Responsibilities may include providing research and reference services for patrons; overseeing various library operations and staff including circulation, material inventory, cataloging, and acquisition; and recommending and implementing policies and procedures.  Incumbents may oversee work of lower level library staff and student workers.

Education:

Master's degree in Library and/or Information Science from an ALA-accredited graduate program.

Experience:

Two (2) years of professional experience as a Librarian. Demonstrated success in providing library instruction, reference, and access services in higher education.

Physical:

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.  If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work. Incumbents may be subjected to dust, poor ventilation, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and light travel.
