Overview The Freedom Library trustees are seeking an outgoing person who loves people and learning (in all of its forms) to lead a dedicated staff and volunteer group. The library plays a vital role in our close and supportive community. It is town-funded with substantial additional support from the Friends of the Library.

Job Description:

The Library Director manages, plans, and oversees all aspects of library operations under the supervision and direction of the Board of Trustees:

· Work with trustees, library staff, the Friends of the Library, and town staff to achieve the library’s goals and implement library policies.

· Advocate, promote, and market library services to all members of the community.

· Plan, develop, and implement programs for community members of all ages.

· Engage with Freedom Elementary School students to foster their involvement in learning and to promote literacy.

· Manage the day-to-day operations of the library.

· Build, maintain, and continuously improve the library collection of all types of media.

· Attends trustees' and Friends of the Library meetings. Provides monthly reports on library activities.

· Prepare an annual budget in collaboration with the treasurer for trustee approval; provide monthly updates to trustees on spending and other fiscal needs and issues.

· Pursue additional sources of revenue by writing and effectively managing grants.

· Develop and analyze circulation and other statistics to identify trends and report on them to the Trustees and State as required.

· Train, supervise, and evaluate library staff. Encourage staff’s professional development.

· Monitor physical condition of the library facility and identify maintenance priorities and repairs to the trustees. Consult appropriate contractors in consultation with a member of the board.

· Ensure the library’s technology keeps pace with library and general technology trends.

· Could be a recent graduate, an experienced leader looking for a new challenge, or a retired person looking to share their knowledge and experience.

· Is energetic and self-motivated.

· Has a passion for learning and fostering literacy.

· Engages well with people of all ages and is able to build relationships with all groups in the community.

· Has demonstrated the ability to motivate, delegate to, and manage the work of staff and volunteers.

· Is familiar with library operations and management.

· Has experience with budgets with a history of successful fiscal management.

Job Requirements

· A bachelor’s degree is required, and the ideal candidate would have either a master’s in library science from an ALA-accredited institution or relevant experience demonstrating the necessary management skills and knowledge for this position.

· Effective speaking, writing, and communication skills.

· Ability to work effectively with Trustees, patrons, staff, friends of the library, and town officials.

· Highly organized with good attention to detail.

· Knowledge of computer and library-related software, budgeting, and technological trends.

Salary and Benefits: $32,500-$36,000 per year, depending on experience
