JOB TITLE:

Library Assistant, Senior-Research & Instruction

JOB PURPOSE:

Perform duties requiring a working knowledge of library science techniques and practices. Provide reference service at the Education and Research Services Office and with the Research & Instruction department, including by phone, email, in-person, and LibAnswers. Support Research & Instruction initiatives including managing a calendaring and scheduling system for library workshops and appointments, advertising workshops and services, event organization including planning and set up, and maintain spreadsheets, files, and systems including LibApps. Maintain library classrooms and the Education and Research Services workspaces. This position reports to the chair of Research & Instruction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide reference services to patrons at the Education and Research Services Office and with the Research & Instruction department, including phone, email, and in-person.
  • Serve as check point for visitors to the ERS Office Suite; communicating and interpreting policies regarding consults, building services, and departmental services.
  • Support faculty online appointment scheduler, schedule rooms, and maintain the workshop scheduling system for all Education and Research Services workshops.
  • Maintain library classroom technology including reporting any issues with rooms, update technology and room user guides, and assist with classroom technology at workshops as needed.
  • Complete accessibility audits of Research Guides, videos, and tutorials, LibGuide link checkers, and captioning of tutorials, videos, and guides to follow accessibility guidelines.
  • Assist Librarians with event coordination including Saddle Up, Wellness, and ENGL 1010 instruction including scheduling, set up and take town, organization, planning, and more. Assist with Resource Fairs and other tabling events as needed.
  • Coordinate advertising efforts for ERS workshops including targeted announcements and proofing materials from UW Libraries marketing team.
  • Assist Librarians with coordination, design, and maintenance of Research & Instruction webpages through the institutional content management system (CMS) and graphic design website imagery elements in Canva.
  • Assist Librarians with examining, correcting, updating, and organizing departmental files, spreadsheets, data, and assessment.
  • Contribute to a positive work environment by demonstrating a commitment to teamwork within a large and complex organization.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Cross-train with Dean's Office staff on backup support for library conference room technology
  • Manage exhibit/display components and prep display cases for new installations
  • Serve on committees, attend meetings, and special projects as assigned.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Associate's degree

Experience: 1-year customer service work experience

Required licensure, certification, registration or other requirements: None

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience providing reference or reception services
