PRIMARY LOCATION: Fall River

POSITION STATUS: This is an MCCC/MTA full-time, Grade 6 unit position with benefits, some nights and weekends required.

SALARY: Hiring Salary Range $73,224 - $87,053*

*Commensurate with qualifications and experience in accordance with the MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement.

STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Library Technical Services Coordinator provides leadership and is responsible for Library Technical Services operations, including acquisitions, cataloging and inventory control, resource discovery, proxy server access, and special collections. The position provides collection development support for all formats, including but not limited to managing vendor relations, collection statistics and analysis, and convening collection development meetings with librarian liaisons. The Coordinator prepares original and copy cataloging records for materials in all formats and oversees the provision of additional copy cataloging and processing support. This position functions as the main technical contact for Bristol's integrated library system (KOHA through the Higher Education Libraries of Massachusetts (HELM) consortium) and discovery platform (EDS). The position supports other library systems, as needed, and works to provide seamless integration across systems to facilitate research and discovery. The Coordinator may supervise part-time and full-time staff, as department needs require. The Coordinator serves as a member of the LLC leadership team and participates in strategic planning and service assessment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage all aspects of acquisitions, cataloging, and processing of materials, which may include but is not limited to:

  • Oversee, coordinate, and perform original and copy cataloging using established cataloging standards for library materials in all formats.
  • Provide original cataloging for items in special collections, which include the LusoCentro collection on Portuguese and Lusophone cultures and the Holocaust and Genocide Center collection.
  • Oversee and manage physical processing of books and other print materials.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot related systems and system integrations.
  • Manage proxy access to electronic resources.
  • Collaborate with the college's Open Educational Resources (OER) committee to catalog resources used by Bristol faculty and to make Bristol-developed OERs accessible externally.
  • Maintain active engagement in the profession, including familiarity with trends, practices, and resources related to technical services.
  • Hire, supervise, develop, and lead LLC technical services support staff. Conduct regular performance evaluations and identify professional development opportunities.


Coordinate development/maintenance of a library collection to support college curricula, course requirements, and student assignments:

  • Manage all areas of collection development for print and non-print materials.
  • Maintain licenses with vendors/publishers/consortia for electronic resources.
  • Monitor collection expenditures; set selection deadlines; compile reports to assist with the evaluations of resources and collection development.
  • Convene collection development meetings.
  • Manage library donations and associated workflows.


Provide department and institutional support:

  • Serve as an institutional liaison to partners (e.g., Massachusetts Community Colleges OER Hub and the Technical Services Working Group of HELM).
  • Serve as the technical point of contact for library systems (i.e., KOHA, EDS, EZ Proxy, etc.).
  • Prepare data on library materials and resource use for internal and external reporting (e.g., ACRL, IPEDS, etc.); provide support for accreditation activities.
  • Serve as a member of the LLC leadership team; participate in strategic planning, budget development, and policy creation for the LLC; lead initiatives as needed.
  • Assist with general library management as needed.
  • Provide reference services as needed.
  • Promote and contribute to a positive and inclusive work environment that supports the professional growth of staff from a diverse range of backgrounds while fostering a commitment to service excellence.
  • Focus on the Commonwealth's Equity Agenda by applying related best practices throughout all job functions and work collaboratively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

NOTE: Unless otherwise noted, all required qualifications must be met by date of hire.

  • Minimum of a Master's degree in Library Science or closely related field. *
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience and/or training involving library operations, reference service, bibliographic instruction, circulation service, copy cataloging, and library information systems. *
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with cataloging standards, such as but not limited to Resource Description and Access (RDA), Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules (AACR2), Library of Congress subject Heading policies and classification rules, Library of Congress Authority Files, MARC Records management, and OCLC.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Reliable transportation for travel to and from meetings, trainings, or campus and community locations as required.


An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience shall be considered.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three or more years of experience working with cataloging standards and tools (i.e., Resource Description and Access (RDA), Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules (AACR2), Library of Congress subject Heading policies and classification rules, Library of Congress Authority Files, MARC Records, and OCLC).
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Koha ILS (integrated library system), EZ Proxy, EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) and SpringShare products.
  • Demonstrated experience with collection development and management.
  • Demonstrated experience with metadata and digital librarianship.
  • Demonstrated project management experience.
  • Familiarity with OER resources.
  • Intermediate reading proficiency in Portuguese.
