  • Seattle Central College is looking to hire a Library Associate in the Library.

**Salary Range for this position is $43,812 to $52,848 annually **(depending on experience).

Opportunity is open until filled, first review of materials will begin **March 18, 2025. **

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Dean for Libraries, Learning Support and Employee Development, the Library Associate is a member of the library circulation team and is responsible for maintaining the course reserves collection. Day-to-day work is directed by the Circulation Manager. 

The Library Associate (LAPP2) is a full-time, 12-month classified position in library circulation services at Seattle Central College. The Library Associate contributes to student-centered, equity-producing, anti-racist and accessible library services primarily at Seattle Central's main campus. This work includes assisting students and faculty at the circulation desk and processing, maintaining, and organizing library resources and services, such as periodicals, interlibrary loan, and reserves. Library staff work cooperatively in a complex, changing environment with a positive, flexible, and innovative attitude and collaborate with library team members to design responsive, equitable, and engaging library services.

This position is full-time, working 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. or 11:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. daily.  

This position works 100% of the time on-site.

This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by WFSE.

What you will be working on:

**Circulation & Public Service  **

  • Provide student-centered circulation service; assist with library technology desk support.   
  • Explain circulation and related procedures and policies; assist in locating, retrieving, and checking in and out library and media items; make authorized decisions regarding exceptional circumstances in the circulation system.    
  • Resolve users circulation and reserves questions and problems according to established procedures, practices, and policies  
  • Monitor circulation of library materials by determining the eligibility of borrowers and by contacting library patrons for the return of books and materials; send notices based on reports from Circulation Manager  
  • Assist in gathering and recording user metrics, such as room count; compile and format circulation statistics as directed.  
  • Assume responsibility for circulation desk in the absence of the Circulation Manager  
  • Open or close the library as assigned  Reserves, ILL, and Collections
  • Perform library services tasks according to established procedures and workflows   
  • Process and maintain automated and/or manual records of reserve textbooks and related collections; communicate with relevant faculty members regarding library materials; coordinate with bookstore and student leaders; resolve related problems.  
  • Process interlibrary loan transactions expeditiously to provide materials borrowed or requested from other libraries  
  • Prepare book carts for re-shelving; shelve books  
  • Assist in maintaining good order in the stacks: shelf reading, sorting books, and shifting books in the stacks with direction from Circulation Manager and Acquisitions Lead  
  • Participate in inventory projects and searching for missing books   
  • May assist acquisitions staff with library materials orders or processing **Other  **
  • Contribute to library-wide services and planning for welcoming, inclusive, and equitable library services.  
  • Assist with outreach, displays, signage, and related activities.   
  • Assist library users with recurring quick information and referral; refer library users to other library staff and college employees as appropriate.   
  • May direct work of work-study students and/or other hourly assistants.

  • High school graduation AND one year of work experience in a library; OR equivalent combination of education and experience in a similar educational or service setting.

  • Proficiency in using standard office productivity applications, including email, word processing, and spreadsheets.
