Duties and Responsibilities: Librarians at the college perform the duties listed below at any SOLA location and format as needed: Institutional Support (30%)

  • Assists with collection development projects; may be responsible for collection development in assigned areas.
  • Provide on-floor library assistance as directed by your supervisor.
  • Engage in programming across all environments and campuses.
  • Design and teach information literacy classes, including curriculum-embedded instruction
  • Create and maintain online research guides (LibGuides), video tutorials, and web content
  • Develop digital and print resources to support library users
  • Promotes library services through active participation, involvement, and leadership in the community, and in library committees and projects.
  • Assist with marketing of the library.
  • Innovate ways in which students, faculty, and staff make use of library services and programming.
  • Work within the college and division to embrace the comprehensive nature of the community college.Behavioral Standards (25%)
  • Communicates effectively will all levels of the institution (student, faculty, staff administration)
  • Engages library patrons in a friendly manner and seeks to provide assistance in all ways possible.

  • Supports all campuses with library services.
  • Support library services at internal or external events.
  • Be flexible to the needs of library support during a non-standard workday.
  • Manage library resources and engage in circulation processes.
  • Troubleshoots computers in the library lab and performs minor diagnostic tasks, escalate IT issues as needed.
  • Process circulation materials including overdue notices and returns.
  • Complete necessary reporting including but not limited to circulation statistics, library notices, reference stats, inventory, etc.
  • Assists with acquisition duties as assigned by the director of library services.Team Relations (20%)
  • Assists other librarians, faculty, or staff with programs and special projects.
  • Conducts information literacy classes and curriculum imbedded instruction to students, faculty, and staff as directed by the director of library services.
  • Provides comprehensive reference services to students, faculty and staff.
  • Provides circulation services to students, faculty and staff.
  • Develops print and web-based tools, guides, and booklists to assist customers in using the library and its resources.Work Habits (25%)
  • Follows college policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain and embrace awareness of changing environment of library services and collection development.
  • Complete mandatory intuitional trainings by established due dates.
  • Oversee or assist with programs housed within the library (Laptop Loan)
  • Participates in professional development activities to stay current on reference and library instruction.

Required Education: MS, MLS, or MLIS in library and information science or related degree

Required Experience: 2 years' in an academic or public library environment

Customer Service: provide assistance and advice through in-person, phone, online chat, and e-mail to faculty, students, and staff with utmost professionalism.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. Must be able to demonstrate the proven abilities of intellectual reasoning, power of persuasion, and consistent dedication to the position.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical interference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills: Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word), and LMS

Required Licenses or Certifications: Criminal Background clearance and valid driver's license.
