The Youth Services Assistant helps with the smooth operations of the Youth Services Department and plans and executes youth programs (patrons under 18), including story times and take-and-make kits. Must be available days, some evenings, and some Saturdays. This is a part-time, non-exempt, 15 hour a week position. Starting salary: $17.00/hour. Benefits include paid holidays and paid time off. 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Plans and conducts weekly story times and other recurring youth programs, plans monthly take-and-make kits, and plans and assists with other specialty programs. 
  • Provides program information and materials to promotions coordinator for use in printed materials, social media, website, and other formats. 
  • Trained in Work Flows and patron services; as well as opening and closing procedures. 
  • Answers directional, general reference, and readers' advisory questions, as needed. 
  • Attends educational workshops and additional trainings, as requested. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Essential Qualifications:

  • Education: completion of some college or university courses preferred. 
  • Experience: 1-2 years related work experience, library experience preferred. 
  • Skills: responsive to text and email. Able to pass a background check. Microsoft Office, including familiarity with Outlook and PowerPoint. Familiarity with web-based searching applications. 
  • Customer Service: ability to work with the public, particularly being comfortable interacting with children and caretakers. 
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the public library's role in the community. 
  • Possesses the ability to work with a team in a small library setting. 
  • Strong organizational skills are a must; and should have the ability to multi-task. 
  • Willingness to learn new things.
