The Raymond Library founded in 1884 is currently searching for a Library Director. The Library Director will be responsible for carrying out the Library mission to assemble, organize, preserve and make available books and educational materials, especially to children of Montville, and to provide stimulation, education, and recreation towards an enriched personal life.

The Director reports to the Library Board of Directors. The position is part-time, 30 hours per week. The Director primarily works days including Saturdays and some evening shifts.

The Director is responsible for the general operation of the library and maintaining the building and grounds. Job duties include but not limited to the following:

  • Administering, directing and conducting programs and services.
  • Supervises and evaluates library staff including scheduling and submission of payroll according to budget to the library treasurer.
  • Seeks and prepares grant proposals and administering all grant monies awarded.
  • Orders and maintains book purchases and supplies.
  • Conducts regular community outreach and maintains positive relationships for all staff and patrons including regular social media campaigns and updates.
  • Ensures that the Library Board of Directors is made aware of any issues affecting library operations.

Job Qualifications: College study or degree in library science or related field. Experience in library sciences and management of budgets and staff. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong customer service and leadership skills are also necessary.
