Evans Library at Florida Institute of Technology is looking for a Systems & Discovery Librarian to join its faculty. Reporting to the Dean, this position will work alongside diverse faculty, students, librarians, and IT colleagues across the library, campus, and within open-source communities on projects that advance our systems used in research, teaching, and learning. The Systems & Discovery Librarian is responsible for the management of all library systems, primarily the library services platform (Koha) and the discovery tool (EDS). This position actively works collaboratively to support patron accounts, electronic resource access, and security issues, ensuring continued access to library services and resources to all Florida Tech users. The individual in this position possesses strong analytical, technical, troubleshooting and communication skills supporting an array of library applications and workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and support the library's management system (Koha), discovery layer (EBSCO Discovery Service - EDS), and link resolver (EBSCO Full-Text Finder).
  • Serve as the primary contact point for Koha and EDS; develop expertise in the library’s Koha system and EDS discovery layer to maintain and enhance their operations; test upgrades, update the library on bugs and system problems, and inform the Florida Tech community about new features.
  • Provide system and technical guidance for all systems used within the library, including Archives Space, Omeka, and Digital Commons.
  • Provide training on new and upgraded systems.
  • Collaborate with the library faculty and campus IT to resolve on and off-campus electronic resource access issues; troubleshoot e-resource access barriers with library colleagues, students, and faculty, resolve individual and large-scale access issues, and communicate potential issues to library stakeholders.
  • Work with library faculty and campus stakeholders to optimize the discovery of and access to the library’s online and print collections for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Continually develop expertise with emerging technologies and identify, assess, and relay information about trends and innovations in electronic resource access and discovery to colleagues.
  • Monitor industry trends and best practices related to library technology and recommend improvements to existing tools and workflows as appropriate.
  • Develop and document internal processes and procedures to support systems and discovery operations.
  • Continually evaluate and enhance services, emphasizing accessibility and overall user experience; develop and maintain an ongoing practice of usability testing with user populations (including internal Library stakeholders).
  • Integrate web accessibility best practices into user experience decisions and perform regular reviews to ensure compliance with ADA and WCAG requirements and guidelines, partnering with subject matter experts to improve and support accessibility as needed.
  • Regularly create and share analytics reports to facilitate data-driven decisions for the library, support collection management, and determine and develop processes for improving the speed and quality of product improvements based on available data.
  • Participate in library-wide planning and governance and work effectively in a shared decision-making environment.
  • Collaborate with librarians and colleagues across the campus on committees and projects to support library services.
  • Successfully achieve promotion in rank.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent international degree


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in an academic library.
  • Experience with integrated library management, preferably Koha, and/or discovery system support, preferably EDS in an academic library.
  • Knowledge of the developing trends in library service and discovery platforms.
  • Strong technical skills, including knowledge of library software and systems, including integrated library systems, discovery systems, authentication software, openURL linking standards, and metadata standards.
  • Knowledge of metadata and cataloging formats including (MARC, Dublin Core, MODS, and METS).
  • Knowledge of scripting or programming languages.
  • Experience with usability and/or user experience testing.
  • Ability to distill and communicate technical concepts to non-technical staff.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continued personal and professional development.
