Library Director

Winfield Public Library is seeking a new Director to lead the Library, which is located in Winfield, Illinois, population 9,000. The Library serves a small engaged community, and is proud to be known for being service oriented. The Library’s mission statement is “To be a resource where people of all ages come to find answers, to meet with each other and to nurture their imagination.” We seek an individual to continue this tradition. The candidate should possess a positive attitude and be capable of building a strong rapport with the staff, patrons, Friends Group, the Board, community organizations and the community at large, while effectively managing the staff through supervision, training and recruitment. 

The candidate must be a hands-on leader, knowledgeable and comfortable with technology, and how technology is best used in providing library services. 

Excellent communication skills are essential, both in interacting with staff and the public. The Director will be expected to be visible in both the Library and the community which it serves.   The candidate should be comfortable with the financial documents required to properly maintain library functions, such as Tax Levy, Appropriations Budget, Audit and the Annual Report of Revenues and Expenditures, and also be able to ensure optimal use of Library funds.

Requirements:

Master’s Degree in Library Science or Library and Information Studies from an ALA accredited institution and at least 5 years of library experience with increasing responsibilities required.  Experience in supervision of staff and building management appreciated but not required.
