The Senior Services Librarian creates and maintains relationships between senior residents, local senior-serving organizations, and the Library. You’ll create, discover, and deliver tailored services and programs that meet seniors' needs and align with the Library's mission. Additionally, you’ll join a growing Adult Services department, assisting with collection development and public services desk coverage.
What You Bring:
- Communication & Tech-Savvy: Strong skills in communication, MS Office Suite, and computer applications.
- Critical Thinking: Ability to analyze information, solve problems, and make decisions.
- Time Management: Prioritize tasks and meet deadlines effectively.
- Research & Organization: Proficiency in research, information organization, and library systems.
- Customer Service Experience: Previous experience in a public-facing customer service role or in training.
- Detail-Oriented: Work with precision and accuracy.
- Relevant Experience: Three years of relevant library experience with, ideally, at least one year working with seniors.
- Educational credentials: Master of Library and Information Sciences required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, develop, and evaluate programs and services to meet community needs, including new programs for seniors.
- Build and maintain relationships with senior residents and senior-serving organizations, and lead book discussions for senior groups.
- Liaise with community groups, analyzing emerging needs to enhance library services for all ages.
- Provide reference, advisory, and customer services, including registering patrons for library cards, checking out materials, and guiding them in using electronic and print resources.
- Perform collection management, including selection, weeding, promotion, and maintenance of assigned areas.
- Provide Interlibrary Loan services using library systems and assist patrons with using library technology, including online databases and e-content.
- Serve as Person-in-Charge, implementing library policy as needed.
- Collaborate across departments on library-wide projects, programs, and services.
- Lead homebound delivery services and register patrons for Talking Books and Braille services.
- Participate in professional organizations, relevant training, and development opportunities.
- Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Work in a typical office environment with occasional visits to other organizations and outdoor events.
- Operate standard office equipment and communicate effectively with staff and patrons.
- Occasionally lift up-to 25 lbs. and perform physical tasks like bending, reaching, and moving materials.
- Valid Driver’s License and proof of insurance or other reliable transportation.
