Are you conscientious, customer service oriented with a commitment to public library service?   Are you looking for a management level position that offers a variety of responsibilities? The Berwyn Public Library is looking for you to head our Adult Services and Teen Departments. Â
Job Duties:
Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Adult Services and Teen Services Departments responding responsibly to patron issues including those of a confidential nature.
Manages all Adult Services and Teen staff according to personnel policies and procedures including: screening and interviewing of applicants; balancing overall staff work load; scheduling; and overseeing attendance reporting.
Develops and monitors the budget for Adult Services and Teen staff and supply/equipment expenditures.
Develops, recommends and administers policies, procedures and processes in support of departmental operations in collaboration with staff and managers across departments.
Initiates, plans, conducts and evaluates a variety of teen and adult programs and activities to encourage the use of the library and its collections, including book discussions, author talks, art exhibitions, etc.
Conducts all collection development activities for the library’s adult fiction, audio visual and teen collections including selecting print, nonprint and electronic materials for purchase, withdrawing materials and evaluating databases.
Plans, prioritizes and makes recommendations regarding Adult Services and Teen Department budgets. Tracks and reports expenditures.Â
Participates in long-range and strategic planning.
Develops training sessions and training materials for patrons and staff.
Manages and negotiates contracts with outside vendors.
Serves as liaison to other departments regarding Adult Services and Teen services.
Performs Adult Service and Teen desk duties as staffing patterns dictate.
Compiles reports and statistics.
Attends relevant professional development seminars and staff and community meetings as required.
Assumes some duties of the Library Director in the Director’s absence.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Masters in Library Science and 2 years in a library supervisory role.
Experience providing Teen or Adult services in a library setting.
Project management experience; proven ability to set clear objectives, measure and monitor process, progress and results.
Ability to plan, analyze and oversee the implementation of a departmental budget.
Strong knowledge of current trends in library services to teens and adults.
In-depth knowledge of library selection tools and collection development resources.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and to adapt communication style to a diverse audience.
Commitment to providing quality patron services.
Ability to analyze and resolve problems with staff and patrons in a positive and professional manner.
Understanding of current library technologies.
Ability to read computer screens, type accurately, lift 30lbs. and move about staff and public areas.
Ability to adjust work schedule to meet various demands of meetings, staffing and facility management including the flexibility to be able to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
