Position Summary Provides research support and library instruction for users of music, dance, and theatre materials, including The Hartt School. Supervises circulation, reserves, stack maintenance, and equipment operations in the Allen Library (a music and dance library). Performs all duties in full support of the University's mission, understanding that the positive and effective execution of these duties are instrumental to the education of the University's students.

Hiring Range Budgeted hiring range is $50,455 to $53,000, depending upon experience

Key ResponsibilitiesInstruction & User Engagement: Develops and presents information literacy classes or workshops for users of music, dance, and theatre materials. Administers a one-semester information literacy course required for all undergraduate degrees from The Hartt School. Creates and maintains manuals and online information guides. Collaborates with colleagues, department heads, and campus partners to promote engagement and utilization of library spaces, resources, and services, using relevant media and marketing technologies and practices.

  • Research & Collection Support: Provides support for students and faculty in the use of all library materials, including special formats in the performing arts and including resources in an array of languages. Supervises Allen Library Public Services Coordinator and/or other staff as assigned who provide reference and information service to library patrons. Provides research support to the community through various means such as in-person interactions, research consultations, online chat, phone, etc. Provides occasional recommendations for title development of the physical and online collection. Helps assess materials donated to the Allen Library.
  • Planning & Coordination of Services: Assists with the design and implementation of public service policies, procedures, outreach and marketing strategies in consultation or collaboration with the Head of Allen Library, Mortensen Library's Head of Research, Instruction, and Circulation, and campus partners. Actively participates in the identification of Allen Library priorities, goals, strategies and direction.
  • Service Desk & Stacks Supervision: Oversees Allen Library circulation services, course reserves, stack/collection maintenance, and equipment. Assists with facilities management. Monitors student employee scheduling and budget to ensure prudent fiscal management.
  • Library Systems: Participates in assessment and management of library systems, including library technologies for catalog and circulation operations and research databases.
  • Web Pages & Online Finding Aids: Develops, updates, and maintains Allen Library web pages and online finding aids, and helps update shared Harrison Libraries web pages, in conjunction with the Allen Head and Harrison Libraries Web Committee to enhance usability, promote library offerings, and comply with University branding standards and Libraries policies.
  • Professional Engagement: Maintains up-to-date knowledge and skills relevant to academic libraries, including current trends in higher education, information technologies and strategies, pedagogical approaches, and the performing arts by engaging with professional literature and/or through active participation in voluntary University service, publication, presentations, and membership in relevant professional organizations. Serves on internal and external committees as appropriate.
  • Statistics & Reports: Maintains accurate statistics and develops a variety of reports for the Allen Library Head on matters pertaining to the Allen Library including, but not limited to, annual and accreditation reports.

Working Conditions Normal office situation.Requires travel, including overnight stays.May work evenings and/or rotating weekends.

Education Masters Degree of Library Science from an ALA accredited institution required, and Bachelors Degree required with a major in music (or recognized equivalents).

Physical Effort Typically sitting at a desk or table.Using equipment requiring high dexterity.Intermittently sitting, standing, stooping.Moderate lifting or carrying 26-50 lbs.
