Description

Purpose:

To provide reference services, serve as the reference desk coordinator, and conduct library instruction to graduate and undergraduate students. It is required that this librarian work collaboratively and cooperatively with the library staff, especially with the other librarians with whom the incumbent will share many common responsibilities.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

Collaborate proactively with students and faculty regarding their library, research, and instructional needs; provide assistance to support their research needs;
Provide research help at the reference desk for the UST scholarly community; set the reference desk schedule for the librarians each semester
Develop access to reference services through new technologies;
Manage, plan and coordinate the social media services at Doherty Library with other librarians; Develop, implement, and measure social media strategy to maximize Doherty Library message and involvement in greater Engage, produce, and compose social media plan and policy to reflect best practices and have the plan and policy ratified by my library colleagues.
Write the library There are six issues per year: three in the fall and three in the spring semesters.
Plan for, and lead, the library's participation in orientation events on campus with the goal of introducing students to the library's services and resources.
Create and maintain online research and informational
Coordinate, with the other Dohe1ty librarians, the shared responsibility of developing the reference collection (including withdrawals).
Provide collection development for selected subject areas in the general circulating collection and for special collections; Maintain relationships with UST Community in order to field acquisitions requests and maintain relevant interests in information resources.
Provide library instruction including basic, intermediate and advanced instruction. Lead library instruction for the Mendenhall Summer Institute.
Plan and implement Information Literacy All aspects of IL must be explored: citations, plagiarism and academic integrity, information evaluation, advanced research methods, etc.
Plan and provide library orientations for a variety of groups: freshmen orientation, graduate, transfer and international student orientations, new faculty; some evening and weekend instruction is required.
Serve as library liaison to several academic departments: planning and conducting workshops, orientations, library instruction.
Oversee and provide special programs (for example, provide tours/instruction to outside groups such as area high school and elementary school groups, planning and coordinating book reading groups);
Plan, schedule and set up all library exhibits (work collaboratively with the Dean of Libraries on the exhibits);
Serve as the liaison to the part-time weekend reference librarians; Supervise, evaluate and schedule pai1-time reference librarians.
At the discretion of the Dean of Libraries, may be assigned some hours at Beran Library if needed.
Other responsibilities as

Supervisory responsibilities:

Supervise student assistants while at the reference desk.
Hire, train, schedule and terminate student assistants.
Evaluate reference depai1ment student assistants, consulting with other librarians as
Help to schedule student worker's in-session and participate in program to increase student skill-set for helping the Doherty Library community.
Supervise, evaluate and schedule pai1-time reference librarians.

Fiscal responsibilities: No fiscal responsibilities.

Full-time non-tenure track faculty position. Flexible schedule in coordination with other reference staff. Some evening and weekend hours required. Some bending, lifting, stooping required in an office environment.



Requirements

Knowledge and skills required:

ALA accredited MLS degree
Experience with reference assistance, bibliographic instruction, and developing social media, user guides and interfaces.
Experience with using online systems and software relevant to reference and instructional
Effective communication and organizational skills are
Self-starter.
