The Niles-Maine District Library seeks a Materials Services Supervisor to manage and operate the Materials Services department. This role involves overseeing all aspects of materials acquisition, cataloging, and processing while leading staff and ensuring efficient library operations. The supervisor will work under the Assistant Library Director to maintain excellent service standards and contribute to the library's mission.

The Materials Services Supervisor will...

  • Manage and evaluate Materials Services staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance reviews
  • Oversee department budget, statistics, reports, and materials tracking
  • Direct all ordering, receiving, cataloging, and processing of library materials
  • Oversee coordination with vendors and negotiate pricing for library resources
  • Collaborate with Consortium and member libraries for catalog uniformity
  • Manage Book Sale volunteers and materials disposition
  • Evaluate and maintain the effectiveness and efficiency of Materials Services Department procedures
  • All other tasks as assigned

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required (MLIS degree preferred)
  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience in customer service 
  • Strong computer skills and technological proficiency 
  • Experience in planning and budgeting
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities 
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds and move up to 100 pounds of materials
