Marketing & Communications Assistant

Are you someone who is detail-oriented and passionate about communicating to the public? The Downers Grove Public Library is looking for a friendly and enthusiastic part-time Marketing & Communications Assistant to join its team!

The Marketing & Communications Assistant is primarily responsible for assisting in the preparation of print and digital materials to be distributed to the public. Responsibilities include:

• Preparing copy and images for emails and social media posts
• Maintaining and contributing to the library’s photo library
• Assisting with the regular maintenance of the library’s website and catalog
• Sharing information about library services at outreach programs Assisting with formatting materials for digital accessibility using alt text and header/paragraph styles

The ideal candidate will:

• Communicate clearly through written and verbal communication
• Be flexible to changing needs of library projects, services, and priorities
• Work well within a team as well as independently
• Provide excellent customer service to internal staff and external community members
• Support equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in the workplace

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
• Experience using Google Drive, Adobe Acrobat, and Canva 
• Experience using email marketing software, inDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and WordPress preferred
• Experience with digital accessibility preferred
• Experience in event photography preferred

This is a year-round, part-time position at 20 hours per week with flexible scheduling. The Marketing & Communications department operates Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., with occasional evening and weekend requirements. Hourly pay is $18.30 - $20.59, depending on qualifications and experience. Benefits include vacation leave, personal leave, sick leave, and enrollment in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) pension system.
