CalculateDevelops, organizes, implements, monitors and/or presents library activities and programs to provide recreational, educational, and informational opportunities for youth and adults of the community. Reports to Executive Director.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Develops and conducts programs in coordination with the Managers, Supervisors, and other library staff, to offer activities that encourage reading, literacy and the use of the library;
Works with the Managers and Supervisors to identify program needs in the community and develop, implement, and coordinate library programs system wide that meet these needs;
Seeks out and creates new programs for youth and adults, working with Managers, Supervisors, and other library staff to schedule programs and contract programs for the library with program presenters;
Identifies and establishes program partnerships with other organizations;
Works with the Supervisor of Public Relations to schedule and promote library programs and activities;
Supervises Programming Librarian; recruits; trains; monitors workflow; reviews work; and performs performance evaluations;
Works with Supervisors to plan, fund, organize, and promote various library programs and activities for youth and adults;
Cultivates and maintains positive relationships with local officials, government entities, public service organizations, Friends, community groups, and the public; liaisons with community groups and develops partnerships as appropriate;
Performs outreach and represents the library in the community and at appropriate events, fairs, and professional organizations;
Coordinates with program presenters, library staff, community members, and volunteers in the presentation of programs and activities;
Oversees the scheduling of programs or activities, presenters, meeting rooms, equipment, and materials; collects fees, registers participants, and maintains participation records for meeting rooms at all locations.
Schedules and coordinates special programs, author programs and signing, workshops, and displays;
Serves as an active member of Peoria Reads and Summer Reading leadership teams;
Develops and monitors the programming budget; develops projections of needs and expenses; recommends budget adjustments; authorizes and monitors programming expenses;
Works with Administration to evaluate existing programming efforts and advise on potential changes that would benefit those served by Peoria Public Library.
May be required to work in multiple locations and on any of the 7 days of the workweek (Sunday – Saturday);
Attends meetings and participates in committees and organizations that further the library’s mission and goals; and
Keeps abreast of library developments and programming opportunities by attending workshops, webinars, and educational programs; and by reading periodicals and specialized literature; attends staff meetings.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The employee is expected to perform or possess the following:
Ability to gain thorough knowledge of Peoria Public Library’s policies and procedures;
Ability to act as a representative of Peoria Public Library to the public;
Effective decision-making skills with strong customer focus;
Ability to plan, implement and evaluate library programs and activities;
Ability to effectively develop, manage and monitor programming budgets and expenses;
Ability to effectively supervise and motivate staff;
Ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse individuals (customers and staff) in order to accomplish library and programming goals and objectives;
Ability to maintain a pleasant and productive working atmosphere;
Ability to keep all relevant parties informed of all major issues and to recommend changes as appropriate;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff;
Knowledge of electronic resources, including the Internet and database information management;
Ability to operate relevant computer systems, including hardware and software, computer networks, and office machines and other equipment; and
Ability to obtain a valid IL driver’s license.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
MLS or MLIS;
Minimum five years relevant experience.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Work requires light physical effort in the handling of light materials in non-strenuous work positions up to 20 pounds.
Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, libraries, classrooms or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls and observance of fire and building safety regulations and traffic signals when driving.
