Position Expectations:

Working at the Health Education Center library, the part-time Reference & Instruction Librarian provides academic research support to students through individual appointments and small group sessions, both in person and online. The librarian will support students with assignments requiring research for a variety of health and nursing courses.

As part of a team of professionals, the successful candidate for this position should be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience in providing clear explanation and instruction of basic and advanced concepts in information retrieval, evaluation, and documentation;
  • Assist, when needed, with circulation and other access services;
  • Patiently explain concepts, using varied instructional methods, to empower the student to find solutions, so the student feels confident to work independently;
  • Show ability to work successfully with students from diverse educational, cultural, age, and social backgrounds, and of varying abilities, to foster an environment of student belonging;
  • Exemplify the attitude, desire, and skills to build connections with the library and learning center team, faculty, and campus partners;
  • Stay informed about current trends and research in library and information science and associated disciplines.

The library’s hours of operation are Monday-Thursday, 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM and Friday, 8:30 AM – 1:00 PM. We are especially in need of assistance on Wednesday.

**Position Summary: **

Incumbents perform professional librarian functions within a higher education setting.  Responsibilities may include providing research and reference services for patrons; overseeing various library operations and staff including circulation, material inventory, cataloging, and acquisition; and recommending and implementing policies and procedures.  Incumbents may oversee work of lower level library staff and student workers.

Education/Qualifications:

Education:

Master's degree in Library or Information Science.

Experience:

Two (2) years of professional experience as a Librarian. Demonstrated success in providing library instruction, reference, and access services in higher education.

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may be acceptable in lieu of those requirements listed above.
