The library operates as a not-for-profit corporation with the City of Delray Beach funding a majority of the operational budget along with additional capital funds raised by the Library Association.

SUMMARY:

The Library Page is a part-time position. As an entry-level role, the position is expected to gain experience and knowledge in all departments and to assist with clerical work such as running reports and database entry and spearheading administrative projects that support all library departments. As a member of the Circulation team, this role will involve shelving books and other library materials, maintaining shelves, and other general housekeeping duties related to library resources. A professional, responsive, and flexible approach to work is essential to success in this role.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Sorts and shelves books, audiovisual materials, magazines, and newspapers Examines shelves to determine if materials are properly filed or shelved Keeps shelves orderly by using proper alignment materials including supports and dividers Locates materials on shelves by information provided in writing, printout, or oral instruction Clears tables, carts, and counter in service areas, returning materials to proper places for reshelving Picks up paper and trash at library entrance and within library Straightens tables and chair in public service area and Cleans and dusts materials and shelves Interfaces with library patrons in a respectful and professional manner Works successfully with the team in a cooperative and collaborative environment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers/copiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Must have the ability to lift 25 pounds in the shifting and moving of library materials and equipment. Must be able to navigate stairs, kneel, bend, stand for 30 minutes in duration, and stretch/stoop in the maintenance of various library collections on shelves throughout the library.  Normal speech quality and normal hearing ability expected at the level of 25 decibels through speech frequency, aided or unaided, to efficiently serve the public. The ability to exert physical effort in sedentary to light work involving prolonged sitting, walking, or moving from one area of the building to another and standing for long period of time. Requires sufficient strength and coordination for lifting, pushing, and/or carrying the weight of small office equipment, files, or books.

TRAVEL: No travel outside of the library is expected in this position.

Education/Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS: High school or equivalency diploma and computer literacy Basic technical library skills along with the ability to deal tactfully and professionally with the public Excellent oral and written skills (English language) with attention to detail required. Ability to work professionally and efficiently in a team with positivity and courtesy Ability to follow oral and written instructions Ability to sort and shelve alphabetically and numerically while operating basic library equipment Willingness to work a flexible, part-time schedule including some weeknights and weekends
