The Oxnard Public Library is seeking an Outreach Services Supervisor to oversee all outreach programming and marketing services for the library system. This position will work directly under the city librarian (Library Manager) and will oversee multiple teams within the library. The Oxnard Public Library is part of the Cultural and Community Services department (CCS). This position will work with other divisions of CCS and departments as well as other departments as assigned, work may include overseeing any functions done within the library; providing customer service; working with other City departments regarding returned checks, and records retention; overseeing proctors and security to enforce the library’s code of conduct; serving as a liaison with facilities maintenance for work orders and with vendors/technicians for building issues; and overseeing Library programs.

PAYROLL CLASSIFICATION TITLE: Library Services Supervisor 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: This classification is distinguished from the Librarian, Senior in that it is responsible for overseeing all circulation desk functions and assigned library programs and providing direct supervision of staff.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED / SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Incumbents supervise paraprofessional and support staff including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring, discipline and termination procedures. Receives general supervision and is expected to prioritize work to meet deadlines and to keep the supervisor informed of issues that would impact achievement of a deadline, organizational policy or procedure or in consideration of risk management.

WORK SCHEDULE: The normal work week is Monday through Thursday and every other Saturday as assigned. Hours may include some evenings and/or nights. This position may be required to work additional hours in response to peaks in workloads and changes in department needs. 

Essential Functions:
This class specification represents only the core areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the Department.

Supervises staff including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring, discipline and termination procedures.

Oversees department functions including setup, ensuring desk and program staffing coverage, monitoring application availability, daily revenue accounting and ensuring the adherence with library policies and procedures.

Oversees workflow of multiple library departments; provides support to senior librarians; works with marketing library materials and processes; establishes and maintains community partnerships; 

Responds to escalated customer service issues and provides resolution; coordinates with and provides support to other City departments; works with vendors; monitors site security and building safety and addresses issues and incidents.

Oversees volunteer program, adult literacy program and homework center programs; communicates and monitors adherence with policies and procedures; provides guidance and coordination of resources.

Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATION:

Master’s degree in library science from an ALA accredited program. 

EXPERIENCE:
Five (5) years of public library experience, including 2 years of supervisory experience. 


LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS: Valid California Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record may be required.

 
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to effectively communicate in English, both orally and in writing
