Perform a wide variety of library functions. Work with the Head of the Veterinary Medical Library on collection, management and long-term access to the digital assets used by the College of Veterinary Medicine. This part-time position (up to 20 hours per week) allows the LIS to develop content management, research and public service skills. In addition, this role will be cross trained to work at the six Specialized Libraries located on the University of Missouri Columbia campus to serve in a backup role to provide coverage as needed.

Key Job Duties:

  • Work with the Head of the Veterinary Medical Library
  • Serve as liaison to the College of Veterinary Medicine and Veterinary Health Center to help facilitate services or faculty, researchers and clinicians
  • Create and edit research guides for veterinary medicine and animal science
  • Assist students, faculty, and visitors via phone, email and in person in locating materials in print and online sources
  • Work up to 12 hours per week on occasion (or more for extenuating circumstances) to provide necessary coverage or assist with projects at the MU Specialized Libraries including Engineering, Geology, Health Sciences, Journalism, Math, and Veterinary Medical libraries
  • Other duties as assigned

Nature of Work:

  • Performs technical, public service and administrative duties within a library setting. Responsibilities include cataloging, acquisitions, circulation, reserve, reference and instruction and inter-library loan.
  • Understands how tasks/activities relate to others on the team and how the team integrates with other related, similar teams
  • Organizes and completes structured assignments according to priorities
  • Performs moderately complex tasks in the area(s) of cataloging, acquisitions, circulation, reserve, collection management, educational materials and programming
  • Organizes and coordinates programs and materials (e.g., developing educational curriculum programming)
  • Provides solutions to problems in situations that are atypical or that occur infrequently
  • Evaluates and selects solutions from established options/procedures
  • Impacts own team through the quality of the services or information provided
  • Communicates through the regular exchange of information, ranging from routine to complex
  • Works with others in team to develop and deliver educational and reference materials to external constituents

Shift

20 hours per week, to be arranged with supervisor

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred QualificationsBachelor's degree preferably in a related field such as health, science, or veterinary science.

  • Familiarity with LibGuides and other programs such as the Microsoft suite of applications.
  • Have excellent customer service skills
  • Be highly motivated, dependable, responsible and possess great teamwork, excellent problem solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Should be able to work independently.Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $14.51-$15.39 per hour
