Job Summary

The Library Associate I is a public service position in a team based collaborative academic environment and is primarily responsible for customer service and facilities and security management of the library during evening hours. This position participates in the orientation, training, supervision, scheduling, mentoring, and evaluation of undergraduate student assistants and graduate students.

The work hours for the position are Monday-Thursday from 12:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. and 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. during Fall and Spring semesters. During the summer, work hours will align with the library's operating hours.

Responsibilities

Customer Service - 50 This position serves as the lead staff person at the main service desk during weekday evenings during the fall and spring semesters and at other times, as needed; participates in the reference question triage by receiving referrals as appropriate and answering questions from patrons in person, via phone, email, text and chat; supports student workers, as needed.

Supervision - 20 Participates in the orientation, training, supervision, scheduling, mentoring, and evaluation of undergraduate student assistants and graduate students; receives applications, interviews and participates in the hiring of student staff as needed and budget permits; analyzes student staff budget and makes recommendations for yearly budget allocations;

Security - 10 During weekday evenings and at other times as assigned, serves as the main point of contact for the security and monitoring of the library building, its operations and equipment.

Other Duties as assigned - 10 Other duties as assigned

Teamwork - 10 Develops and participates in library promotional activities; works on library projects and serves on committees as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements Associate's Degree

Required Experience One year of customer service experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Educational Qualifications Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Experience Experience providing end-user assistance in using web-based applications and technology; experience supervising, training, and mentoring students.
