Job Details: Mercer University is searching for a part-time Library Assistant II on the Atlanta, Georgia campus.

Responsibilities:

The part-time Library Assistant II position covers evenings, weekends, and other necessary shifts, providing excellent frontline circulation customer service and working in a team-based environment under the daily guidance of the Swilley Library Director. Routine tasks include providing excellent customer service, maintaining a positive attitude and serving as the outward face of the Library, operating a web-based circulation system, assisting with inter-library loans, providing reserve services, opening and closing the library building, shelving materials, monitoring patron and building security during assigned hours, and other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Foundational knowledge of Microsoft products such as Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Minimum 1 year of library experience or direct customer service experienceKnowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  1. Knows how to communicate and interact effectively with patrons and colleagues in person, electronically, and via the telephone to provide quality customer service.
  2. Personable, with a good professional image and attitude as well as enthusiasm for daily front-end interactions with patrons. Ability to work as part of a team and to work cooperatively and creatively with colleagues to maintain a positive work environment.
  3. Knows how to operate and troubleshoot office equipment, including photocopiers and microform reader/printers, computers, printers in order to assist patrons and ensure they are working efficiently.
  4. Knows how to use Microsoft Word and Excel to maintain records and prepare reports.
  5. Knows how to use web editing software in order to create, modify, and publish web content.
  6. Knows how to use the integrated library system to circulate materials, prepare notices, place holds and/or recalls, conduct basic processing, and obtain statistical data.
  7. Ability supervise student assistants and evaluate their work to ensure effective workflow.
  8. Ability to move boxes and materials of up to 30 pounds in order to shelve and or move library materials with or without reasonable accommodation.
  9. Ability to produce accurate work, ability to organize work, and ability to set and adjust priorities.
  10. Ability to push fully loaded book trucks, and ability to reach and bend to shelve library materials with or without reasonable accommodation.
  11. Ability to use independent judgment to make appropriate decisions.
  12. Ability to stay motivated, be proactive, and to demonstrate innovation.
