The list established from this recruitment may be used for branch and specialized vacancies within the San Diego County Library. 

The Digital Projects and Metadata Position:

This position is responsible for the cataloging, classification and digital preservation of items using national standards and local practices. This unit will also lead San Diego County Library’s efforts to act as a publisher for digital content related to the business of the County. 

Branch Manager Position: 

This position is responsible for managing a large branch, planning and overseeing branch programming, cooperating with community groups, local leaders, and Friends of the Library to generate public support. You may be responsible for collaborating with local elected and government officials as well as providing supervision and training to professional and paraprofessional staff.

To perform professional library work of a varied nature in County branch libraries or division, including readers' guidance, reference services, materials selection, children's and young adult services, collection development, information technology services, implementing community programs and to perform related work as required.

This is the highest-level class of the Librarian series. Librarians are distinguished from the next lower class, Library Technician, in that the incumbents in the latter do not require possession of a college degree, do not develop reference or children's services or community programs, and are not trained in certain library methods and techniques.

Under direction of a Principal Librarian, employees in this classification provide supervision and training to professional and paraprofessional staff; participate in local community activities to generate public support for library and fundraising efforts; act as a liaison to the Friends of the Library and may administer the operations of a resource library (Category 4) or of a support division in the library system. Librarian III's are distinguished from the next higher class, Principal Librarian, in that the latter is responsible for a major operations region or division such as Program Services, Technical Services, or Access Services, and interpretation of county library policies.



Requirements

A Master's degree in Library Science (MLS/MLIS) from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certificate of foreign studies equivalency, AND three (3) years of full-time experience as a professional librarian that includes progressively responsible supervisory experience; OR,

A Master's degree as described above, AND one (1) year of full-time experience as a Librarian II with the County of San Diego.

Note:  A Master's degree in Library Science from a U.S. college or university or a certified foreign studies equivalency, accredited by the American Library Association is highly desirable. Experience working in a public library is also highly desirable.
