Description Benefits Questions Position Information This Librarian III position coordinates, leads and inspires a variety of system wide teams, such as the selectors team; oversees and coordinates a craft closet for systemwide supplies: anticipating craft supply needs and trends throughout CCPL. This position Manages a branch-sized department and actively self-manages, coordinates and participates in department and systemwide outreach and programming.
Essential Functions Supervises, directs and evaluates assigned employees, volunteers, or community service workers, processing concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining and completing employee performance appraisals.
Supervises the operations of a branch or a specialized/centralized department: coordinates daily work activities; organizes and prioritizes workload; makes work assignments; provides training as needed; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work; and troubleshoots problem situations.
Develops and implements library programs and activities in assigned areas: designs programming to targeted readership; maintains records of program participation; assists in developing goals and objectives for area of specialty; recommends allocation of financial, staffing, equipment, space, and bibliographic resources necessary to meet goals and objectives; interprets goals, objectives, and policies to the public; and coordinates and oversees arrangement of physical facilities in assigned area.
Provides customer service to library patrons and the public: provides assistance and information related to library programs, services, materials, facilities, equipment, fees, procedures, or other issues; responds to questions and complaints related to library operations; researches problems and initiates problem resolution; greets visitors and directs to areas of library; assists patrons in requesting, selecting, and locating library materials; and researches book titles, book availability, patron records, or related information.
Supervises the selection, retention, and general development of a library collection: oversees the selection of books, periodicals, and other materials for purchase; prepares and oversees the preparation of order lists for purchase of library materials; reviews donated materials and determines which items to add to collection; and removes outdated, worn, and little-used materials from library collections as needed.
Plans and provides outreach for the branch or library system: visits schools, nonprofit organizations, summer camps, etc. to promote and implement library services and programs; provides information and education about library services and materials; attends meetings of neighborhood organizations and various committees; gives speeches and presentations; promotes literacy programs; creates promotional items such as flyers, website content, and videos; coordinates tours; and assists in establishing partnerships with other agencies.
Plans and coordinates the cataloguing and processing for the library system: creates and modifies bibliographic database records according to established standards governing cataloging, formatting, subject headings, and Dewey Decimal classification; modifies bibliographic database records for library use, including assignment of local call number and specific subject access terms for the community; verifies machine-readable cataloging authority records; creates controlled vocabulary for subject and name access; enters and loads bibliographic and authority database records into library computer systems; creates item level database records and identification numbers; creates and publishes indexes and other finding aids; and processes purchase order for databases and services as needed.
Plans and implements public relations and communications for library system: creates, manages, and updates website, social media, and other online content; troubleshoots problem situations; backs-up databases; creates and implements marketing campaigns; and creates graphics for promotional materials.
Performs related administrative duties: monitors budget for assigned area to ensure compliance with approved budgets; monitors patron activities to ensure the safety; monitors branch for needed maintenance or repairs; reviews meeting space applications; compiles statistics; and prepares and submits a variety of reports.
Monitors inventory levels of equipment and supplies: initiates requests for new or replacement materials; and recommends the purchase, lease or rental of equipment related to services in assigned area.
Monitors usage of library computers: explains and enforces library rules for use of computers and Internet; performs basic maintenance and troubleshooting of computer systems and library equipment; and coordinates service and repair activities, as needed.
Processes inter-library loan requests from patrons and other libraries: verifies and identifies requested materials; receives and processes borrowing requests and incoming material; and completes related documentation.
Performs all duties of subordinate library personnel as needed: provides circulation services to patrons; repairs or mends damaged books and materials; re-shelves and locates books and materials; restocks supplies; and performs general tasks related to operation and upkeep of the library.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Library Science & Information Science from an ALA Accredited University; supplemented by two (2) years of librarian experience in library operations and one (1) year supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidate should possess 5 or more years of experience in supervising staff, managing a large department, developing and providing programming and outreach in youth services. Experience in using a variety of technologies.
Licenses and Certifications Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Librarian certification. Physical Abilities Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).

Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
