About the Position

In this role you will...

  • Develop and implement standards of service that ensure the prompt and efficient resolution of each inquiry, delivered with the utmost respect and courtesy.

  • Create unique programs and participate in Makerspace (Creation Station) activities.

  • Identify and coordinate programming with guest presenters and assist with meeting room booking.

  • Promote understanding and use of the library, its technology, and resources by presenting individual and group training programs.

  • Assist customers by locating answers to questions, including Interlibrary Loan services and referrals to agencies outside the library.

  • Keep abreast of developments, new trends, and innovations in libraries.

  • Aid at service desks and to other sections as needed.

  • Represent Sarasota County and the library/library interests to library users and within the community.

  • Prepare reviews, press releases, bibliographies, and other promotional displays.

  • Analyze and identify service population needs, developing and directing plans to meet those needs.

  • Network with other agencies to provide and obtain materials and services.

  • Participate in setting unit, library, and system goals, contributing to decision making and the evaluation of progress.

  • Serve as person-in-charge of the library as needed.


Work Schedule:

  • Full-Time, 40 hours / week.
  • Sunday - Saturday, 8:00 a.m. - 8:15 p.m.
  • Must be available to work during operating hours for the library - including some nights and weekends. 
  • Employee may be re-assigned to a different work location (other than original assignment) within the library system to meet changing service needs on occasion.


Requirements

About You

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Library Science from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association (ALA) or the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Science Professionals (CILIP).

  • - OR - Bachelor’s degree and enrolled in an MLS/MLIS program with the ability to obtain an MLS/MLIS within six (6) months of hire.

  • Valid Florida Driver's License by date of hire.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • One (1) year of experience in a library environment.

  • Skilled in using various electronic devices, including, but not limited to Kindle, Nook, tablets, and iPads and imparting this knowledge to customers of all ages.

  • Ability to train/coach patrons in the use of technology.

  • Knowledge or desire to learn Makerspace technologies such as 3D Printing or sewing.
