Roanoke College’s Fintel Library invites enthusiastic, energetic, creative, and collegial candidates to apply for the full-time position of Instruction & Research Services Librarian.  As part of the Fintel Library team, the Instruction & Research Services Librarian will share responsibility for improving the quality of Library services, user satisfaction, and academic success through a proactive and collaborative approach.   Reporting to the Director of the Library, the Instruction & Research Services Librarian coordinates the library’s reference, research services and instruction program and conducts library instruction sessions for Intellectual Inquiry 110/120, the Honors Program, and other assigned subject disciplines.  

 The Instruction & Research Services Librarian supervises an interlibrary loan staff member and serves as subject liaison to assigned academic departments.  As one of the library’s first points of contact with first-year students, outreach and active engagement in the campus community is essential. Liaison responsibilities will include promotion of library services, collaboration with students, faculty, and staff in the development and assessment of library collections for assigned subject areas.  On a rotating basis, the Instruction & Research Services Librarian will provide weekend on-call coverage. The Instruction & Research Services Librarian may also serve as a co-instructor for the Public History Library Practicum.

Requirements

  • ALA-accredited MLS, MIS or equivalent advanced degree in library / information science
  • Reference and instruction experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience with integrated library system software and discovery tools.
