The Instruction & Public Services Librarian delivers information literacy instruction for all Chicago campus students, including needs assessment, creation of lesson plans and other teaching materials, and teaching of instruction sessions. This position also provides reference services and research consultations for the Chicago campus, oversees circulation and reserves, and supervises student workers.

Education/Experience:

  • MLS, MIS, or MLIS degree or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program
  • Minimum of 2 years instruction and public service experience in an academic library, including:
  • Library user instruction in a classroom setting
  • Creation of lesson plans, learning objectives, and instructional materials
  • Outreach to and collaboration with teaching faculty
  • Reference services to students, faculty, and staff
  • Experience with AlmaPrimo or similar integrated library system
  • Supervisory experience

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Instruction:

  • Works with faculty in all academic programs on the Chicago campus to understand and meet their students' information literacy needs
  • Develops, teaches, and assesses library instruction sessions for all Chicago campus programs
  • Develops and teaches orientation sessions and library instruction workshops
  • Creates and maintains LibGuides and other instructional support materials

Public Services:

  • Provides one-on-one reference and research consultations in person and online
  • Coordinates reserve titles each semester
  • Oversees patron-facing circulation functions
  • Hires, trains, and supervises library student workers to staff the library front desk providing circulation and ready reference
  • Collects and analyzes statistical data on reference and instruction
  • Provides backup ready reference and circulation service at library front desk
  • Other projects and duties as assigned

Work Environment (Physical Demands):

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

Education

Preferred
