The Sunderland Public Library seeks a creative and enthusiastic Head of Young Adult Services to manage services for patrons ages 11 -18. The Head of Young Adult Services is responsible for providing administrative, professional, and supervisory work in the area of Young Adult Services. The Head of Young Adult Services is responsible for collection development of young adult materials, young adult program planning, and assists in other library operations. 

Specific Duties Include:

·         Provides a vision for the Sunderland Public Library’s young adult department and implements strategies to achieve that vision.

·         Selects and purchases all library materials for young adults.

·         Catalogs all incoming young adult materials. 

·         Plans, schedules, and leads events for young adults. 

·         Provides circulation, reference, and technology assistance for patrons of all ages. 

·         Provides technology assistance for patrons. 

Sunderland Public Library is a small, public library in Western Massachusetts. The library employs four part-time staff and one full-time Director. As a small library, all employees spend the majority of their working hours on the circulation desk providing service to patrons of all ages. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, creative, and passionate about serving young adults. This position requires a self-motivated individual who can envision programs and services and take concrete steps to implement them with the support of their coworkers. 

This is a part-time non-benefited position, working 8 – 15 hours per week (8 hours each week; plus 7 hours every other Saturday). 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

·         Experience working with young adults ages 11 – 18.

·         Experience providing customer service.

·         Enjoyment of working with diverse patrons of all ages.

·         Commitment to ongoing professional development.

·         Creativity.

·         Comfort using a variety of technologies including computers, printers, photocopiers, eReaders, and mobile devices.

·         Commitment to keeping technology-based skills current.

·         Willingness to approach technology troubleshooting with a positive and helpful attitude.

·         Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and assess priorities in a busy setting.

·         Ability to maintain composure and treat patrons with kindness in a busy setting.

·         Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

·         Enthusiasm, energy, and accuracy in the completion of all tasks.

Preferred Qualifications:

·         Bachelor’s Degree or MLS. 

·         Experience working in libraries.

·         Experience using Evergreen ILS.

Physical Demands of Position:

·         Standing for long periods of time.

·         Frequent bending, crouching, reaching, climbing, and walking.

·         Ability to push or pull a book truck weighing up to 50 pounds.

·         Regularly lifting items weighing up to 20 pounds.

·         Ability to work at a computer screen for extended periods of time.
