Job Summary

The Head of Acquisitions is a member of the Collection Services Unit and manages the staff and work of the Acquisitions unit as the Library continues to develop one of the largest comprehensive collections of legal materials in the world. The Head of Acquisitions reports to the Assistant Director for Collection Services. Responsibilities*Manages, coordinates and supervises the work of the Acquisitions unit including: - Recommending staffing levels and word schedules; hiring, training, evaluating, and supervising those who work in the unit - Keeping abreast of and utilizing current technologies and trends that anticipate, meet, or exceed the research needs of the Law Library's primary users - Incorporating traditional library technology and skills and advancing the use of emerging technologies

  • Oversees the work of the Acquisitions unit including:
    • Ordering, organizing, and receiving materials, liaising with vendors, maintaining records, and handling invoices and payments
    • Budget monitoring, generating financial reports, addressing invoice discrepancies, processing cancellations, and managing subscriptions
  • Participates in Acquisitions and Library-wide planning and problem solving
  • Serves on Library and Law School committees and work groups
  • Other duties as assignedRequired Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Acquisitions unit experience in an academic library
  • Experience with an acquisitions module of library management system
  • Supervisory experience
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organization skillsDesired Qualifications*
  • Ability to work with foreign language materials
  • Experience using Innovative Interface's Sierra LMSModes of Work
