$125,000.00-$125,000.00,Yearly

The Board of Trustees of the North Suburban Library District are looking for a strong, creative leader to be their next Director. A $5.3 million budget supports 50 staff members serving over 69,000 people living in Loves Park, Machesney Park and Roscoe, Illinois. The Library operates buildings in Loves Park and Roscoe. Projects in both buildings plus updating the Library’s strategic plan await input and leadership from the new Director.

The three towns comprising NSLD are each unique in their composition. Loves Park and Machesney Park are closer to Rockford and are served by the City’s public transit. Roscoe has the fastest growing population and lies closest to the Wisconsin border. The District has growing Latino and Eastern European populations.

The Director will need to gather input from multiple stakeholders–Board, staff, and patrons–and form consensus around the Library's long term needs. Working cooperatively with the management team, they will be responsible for ensuring consistent service at both buildings while emphasizing the strengths each offers district residents.

The Library is led by a 7-member elected Board of Trustees with a long history of serving from a sense of service and love of the Library. While the upcoming consolidated elections in April will bring change to the Board’s current composition, dedication to the Library will remain a Trustee priority.

The motivated staff is dedicated to their community and beloved by their patrons.  They manage 200 holds lockers at both buildings. Available 24/7, the lockers are incredibly popular and often at full capacity. Staff work with area agencies to host offsite programs throughout the community. These programs attract patrons otherwise unable to visit the Library.

**Qualifications **

Minimum qualifications for the position include a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program, with 5 years of related work and 3 years of supervisory experience.

The successful candidate must possess the discipline to manage competing priorities, the emotional intelligence to support the team, and the ability to build and maintain relationships with community organizations and their leaders. They will be the face of the Library in the community and they will provide the proper setting for recruiting and developing staff that mirrors the community. Top-notch communication skills are required.

This is a full-time, exempt position with a starting annual salary of $125,000, based on qualifications and experiences. The Library also offers a generous benefits package including paid vacation time and sick leave, health insurance, and participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund.

Please apply by sending a thoughtful cover letter, a concise resume, and a minimum of 3 professional references–all in PDF–to [email protected] by Friday, February 21, at 5:00pm. For further information, go to https://www.deiterstodd.com/nsld or contact Alex Todd at [email protected].
