The University of Vermont (UVM) Libraries seek a director of Access, Technology, and Media Services (ATMS). We seek candidates with vision and verve; who are creative and collaborative; who will advocate for UVM's students and faculty and for library colleagues; and who will foster a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.
The director leads and supervises the dynamic work of the Access, Technology and Media Services Department. Work will include making existing services more visible and collaborating with colleagues to develop new research-support services. The director will help reimagine library service points as the library looks towards renovations of its physical spaces. Leading media services and technology services offers exciting opportunities to explore new technologies and facilitate research and education across campus.
Competitive candidates will have strong interpersonal skills, a commitment to teamwork, and demonstrated experience or knowledge of transformations necessary in academic libraries, especially technological developments, including AI. Candidates should have fluency in common library technology, including systems similar to those employed at UVM (e.g., Alma, digital-asset-management systems, EZproxy, ILLiad, etc.) Candidates should also think creatively about expanding access to scholarship through open access and other models for producing and disseminating information-a value central to the UVM's land-grant identity and commitment to the public good.
UVM recently migrated to new library service platforms and then moved into an Alma network zone this summer with four other members of the Boston Library Consortium. We'll ask the director to think creatively and ambitiously about cooperative efforts to improve access to materials through the network zone.
We seek both a leader and a collaborator-someone who can help craft a vision for the department and work with colleagues to implement that vision.
This position provides leadership, planning, coordination, direction, and supervision for the
Department's services and its team of 20 faculty and staff. This director has five direct reports: the access services supervisor, the interlibrary loan supervisor, the digital scholarship and technology librarian, the systems and technology services librarian, and the web services librarian.
This position reports to the Dean of Libraries and works closely with other library directors and colleagues across UVM's three library buildings: Howe Library, Dana Health Sciences Library, and Silver Special Collections Library. This position provides leadership in the Libraries' planning and operations as a member of the Dean's Council and ensures close cooperation with other library departments. Librarians at the University of Vermont hold faculty appointments without tenure. As such, librarians are expected to perform in three areas: Educational Mission (Librarianship); Scholarly and Creative Activity; and Service. Rank at time of initial hire and promotions are based upon performance in all three areas.
Responsibilities:
Appointment, Salary, Benefits:
The Director has a primary appointment as an academic administrator and a secondary appointment as a Library Faculty member. Library Directors have a record of librarianship, scholarship, and service appropriate for an appointment at the rank of Library Associate Professor or above. The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $130,000. Library Faculty are not eligible for tenure.
Generous benefits package includes: TIAA/CREF (or alternative plan), professional development, managed health care plan, and 22 days of annual leave.
Inclusive Excellence Statement :
Provide a statement on how, as Faculty and Director of the Silver Special Collections Library in the University Libraries, you would enhance the impact of Our Common Ground Values (https://uvm.edu/president/our-common-ground), advance diversity and inclusive excellence at UVM.
