About the Position:

Join the management team at the Atlantic City Free Public Library as the Youth Services Librarian and help provide responsive services to our vibrant and diverse community!

This position performs work responsibilities under the general direction of the Library Director and functions as a “person-in-charge”.

Major Duties:

Supervise the Youth Services Department, including staff and volunteers.
Responsible for programming for children and families, including planning, preparation, budgeting, scheduling, implementation, reporting, and assessment.
Responsible for Summer Reading Program for children and teens including programming, promotion, school visits, and reporting.
Responsible for outreach to Atlantic City schools and participation in community events geared towards youth.
Promote library collections and services to the public both internally and externally
Evaluate community needs and identify opportunities for new programs, services, and collections.
Manage and develop the Youth Services collections
Prepare displays, exhibits, and booklists. Contribute website and social media content.
Organizes and gives tours of the library including school group visits.
Attends library training, workshops, conferences and other continuing education related to youth services as approved by the Library Director.
Assist library patrons in finding materials, answering questions and providing reader’s advisory.

Schedule:

Full-time – 35 hrs./week, includes alternating weeknights (Thursday 12-8pm) and Saturdays.



Requirements

A Master’s degree in Library or Information Science in a library program accredited by the American Library Association, two years of recent library experience, and a Professional Librarian certificate issued by the State of New Jersey.

The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of current library technologies and demonstrated experience using technology and digital resources. Excellent customer service and communication skills are essential. Students enrolled in a graduate degree library program may be considered if they have educational experience.

This is a Civil Service position.
