The Circulation Supervisor assists patrons at the Circulation Desk and via telephone or email by performing procedures related to the circulation of materials and public services.

Minimum Skills and Qualifications

  • Two or more years of supervisory experience
  • Two or more years of professional library experience
  • Experience with integrated library systems (preferably SWAN), reference, and public services
  • Excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, computer proficiency, a commitment to providing superior service, and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a busy environment
  • Excellent teamwork, project management, and conflict-resolution skills

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serving as the primary Circulation point person in the absence of the Library Manager.

  • Working strategically with the Library Manager to assess, propose, and implement improvements in Circulation workflows and procedures supporting public services.

  • Work with the Library Manager to address staff performance issues.

  • Supervising the activities of Circulation staff during evening and weekend hours.

  • Generate monthly circulation reports for review.

  • Training Circulation Clerks. 

  • Conduct annual performance reviews for assigned staff members.

  • Stay updated on overall library functions, ongoing projects, and goals.

  • Performing all Circulation Desk duties, including but not limited to checking out and renewing Library materials, placing holds, collecting fines and fees, and responding to patron requests.

  • Help staff quickly address patron questions and concerns while effectively managing any conflicts that arise.

  • Order, stock, and keep an inventory of office supplies organized.

  • Order periodicals and track prices and expiration dates diligently.

  • Adhering to all library policies and procedures. 

  • Represent the library positively at all times

  • Maintaining a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace and public services.
