This position reports to the Senior Youth Services Librarian and performs professional work to provide programming and services for children. This role is responsible for planning, scheduling, and implementing regular programs for children ages 0 – 12 to promote literacy and early childhood development. The person in this position represents the library at outreach events and performs all other related work as required. The candidate who fills this role will have a strong ability to work with children, students, parents, Town organizations, departments, and officials. 

Essential Functions:

·         Plans, oversees, and implements library programs for children ages 0-12 years.

·         Works with the Senior Youth Services Librarian to seek out, administer, and implement grants.

·         Oversees Youth Department functions in the absence of the Senior Youth Services Librarian.

·         Provides reference services.

·         Responsible for marketing youth programs and services.

·         Works within the programming and materials budgets assigned.

·         Works with the Senior Youth Services Librarian and the Programming Coordinator on website updates for the Youth Department.

·         Conducts library orientation tours and programs for community groups and agencies.

·         Performs outreach at the schools and other community events.

·         Keeps informed of children’s issues and developments in the profession.

·         Performs similar or related work as required, directed, or as situation dictates.

Schedule:

This is a 20 hours per week part-time, benefitted position that will require some Saturday hours as determined by the programming schedule. Start date will be in January 2025. 

Qualifications

Three to five (3-5) years of related experience in a public or school library serving children. A Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited school is preferred, but applicants with an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
