Children’s Librarian

The Berlin-Peck Memorial Library in Berlin, CT is seeking an enthusiastic and creative individual to join our Children’s/Teen team! We are a family-oriented library that places a high value on providing personalized service with an emphasis on being welcoming and inclusive. Under the supervision of the Head of Children’s & Teen Services, the Part-Time Children’s Librarian plans, publicizes, and conducts programs; provides outreach to the community; assists with collection development; provides reader’s advisory; assists patrons and performs other duties as related to children and teens.

Compensation and Benefits: Starting salary: $29.25/hour. This position is non-union with some vacation benefits.

Hours: 17 hours per week (Tuesdays, 10-4; Wednesdays, 2-8; Thursdays, 3-8; and rotating Saturdays, with time off during the week when a Saturday is worked).

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited school is required (candidates within one semester of graduation will be considered). Strong customer service skills necessary. The candidate must have experience working collaboratively with others along with excellent communication skills and a commitment to serving the needs of young library users, their families, and caregivers. Must possess a familiarity with and enjoyment of children’s literature as well as the ability to communicate clearly, pleasantly and courteously with child(ren) and adult patrons, as well as staff. Knowledge of Sierra/Encore a plus. Knowledge of current technologies applicable to libraries is essential. Must be proficient in Windows and Microsoft Office applications and have the ability to troubleshoot computer and printer problems. Must be able to work independently as well as part of the library team.
