Join our dynamic team as a Bookmobile Driver! In this essential role, you will operate the mobile library, providing access to books, resources, and library materials to community members of all ages. You will be the face of the library in our neighborhoods, delivering exceptional customer service while ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all. Job Responsibilities

  • Drive and operate the bookmobile safely, ensuring smooth and efficient travel to scheduled locations.
  • Maintain high standards of customer service by greeting customers, answering questions, assisting with book selections, and other services.
  • Ensure the safety of all passengers and visitors while on the bookmobile, following all traffic and safety regulations.
  • Create a welcoming environment, fostering strong relationships with community members and encouraging library engagement.
  • Assist with loading, unloading, and organizing library materials to ensure the bookmobile is fully stocked and accessible.
  • Monitor vehicle operations, perform routine maintenance checks, troubleshoot potential mechanical difficulties, and report any issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of stops, circulation data, and customer interactions.
  • Participate in promotional and outreach events to raise awareness of the bookmobile and library services.

Requirements & Skills

  • Valid class "B" commercial driver’s license (CDL), or willing to obtain CDL within 6 months.
  • Clean driving record.
  • Experience in customer service, with a strong focus on communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building.
  • Ability to lift and carry books and materials (up to 30 lbs.).
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work as a team.
  • Commitment to maintaining safety, security, and compliance with all vehicle and operational procedures.
  • Positive attitude, patience, and a passion for serving the community.

Preferred skills

  • Knowledge of library services and programs is a bonus
  • Bilingual language skills a plus, but not required
  • The preferred candidate must also demonstrate ability to work effectively with staff and customers in alignment with Our Culture and IDEA.

**Education: ** High School diploma/GED or equivalent applicable work experience.  

**Hours and Scheduling: ** Full time position 37.5 hours/week. Monday-Friday afternoon/evening shifts and occasional weekend shifts.
