Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Collections, Systems, and Services, the Library Collections Assistant will support the College Library's collections and daily operations. This role will focus on maintaining an organized and accessible library environment by assisting with special projects and routine tasks. The Library Assistant will contribute to the efficient operation of the library by ensuring materials are properly managed and available to patrons.

Job Duties

  • 40% - Library Materials Relocation and Stacking - Assist library staff and student assistants in relocating books, periodicals, and other materials between designated areas. Special projects include large-scale shifting, in which materials are physically moved within the building or packed for storage. Organize, shift, and consolidate book and periodical stacks to enhance accessibility and optimize space. - (Essential)
  • 30% - Inventory Management - Conduct periodic inventory checks of library collections using spreadsheets and the Library Services Platform (Alma). This includes collection-wide inventory projects and updating records to maintain accurate documentation of changes and movements in the collection. - (Essential)
  • 20% - Collections Maintenance - Support ongoing collections maintenance tasks, such as sorting, reshelving, covering books with mylar, and applying spine labels and stickers to materials. Special projects may include relabeling books and other physical materials as needed. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Clerical and Customer Service Support - Perform routine clerical tasks and provide customer service assistance to library patrons. This includes supporting library staff with day-to-day operations and responding to patron inquiries. - (Essential)Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One year of experience in a customer service role, in a library or public-facing setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google drives/folders/forms, Adobe Acrobat, Web Editing, and social media applications or any combination of productivity programs applicable to position responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented and thorough; skilled at anticipating and preventing potential problems and handling a wide variety of tasks with efficiency and accuracy.
  • Strong commitment to a quality work product.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally, in writing and electronically.
  • Effective interpersonal skills as evidenced in the ability to collaborate with a variety of constituencies.
  • Demonstrated commitment to justice, equity, inclusion & diversity.
  • Demonstrated skill in adapting to and performing work effectively in high-volume, high accountability, confidential environment with multiple and changing priorities.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Library Science, Education or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working in a library or similar environment.
  • Familiar with library systems and processes, such as organizing materials and conducting inventory.EXPECTED HIRING RANGE: $24.00/hr
