The Assistant Director of Library Services assists the Dean of Library Services in daily operations and has primary responsibility for effective information literacy instruction across the institution, and acts as a liaison to the incoming student outreach program. The Assistant Director provides staff training as well as reference and circulation services to patrons. Works in conjunction with other professional staff to plan and expand support to students, faculty, and staff in the academic setting; assists in the collection development of library materials in a variety of formats; integrates planning, budgeting, and staffing to provide excellent library service in support of the Young Harris College community.

  • Assists in strategic and operational planning and the formulation of goals, policies and procedures for Library Services.
  • Provides instructional leadership for the development and management of information literacy instruction, initiatives and programs.
  • Represents the College in local, state, regional, and national library organizations and initiatives to advance the interests of the college.
  • Submits recommendations on library policies and services to the Dean of Library Services. Provides library public relations, student engagement, and marketing services.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Plans and conduct staff meetings and trainings.
  • Serves on college-wide committees and initiatives as designated by the Dean of Library Services, the Provost, or other organizational needs.

Qualified applicants are expected to have a Master of Library Science (MLS) or Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree from an accredited college or university.

Applicants must have experience with standard office equipment and programs and must be able to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment using specialized software.
