Position Description: The Applied Health Sciences Librarian manages library collections and services that support the teaching, research, and public engagement work of the faculty, staff, and students of the College of Applied Health Sciences (AHS) through instruction, research consultation, and collection development. The Librarian offers instruction and consultation on the use of systematic review methods in the health and social sciences and serves as a Library expert on systematic reviews.
Within the unit, the AHS Librarian contributes to training and mentorship of Graduate Assistants and participates in Social Sciences, Health, and Education Library (SSHEL) information services.
Responsibilities: Reporting to the Head of the Social Sciences, Health, and Education Library, the Applied Health Sciences Librarian will provide subject expertise for the interdisciplinary fields within the College of AHS, focusing on the learning, research, and collection needs of the students and faculty of the College.

The Social Sciences, Health, and Education Library (SSHEL) provides consistent, high quality research and instructional services to 365 faculty, other staff, 7,900 undergraduate and 4,100 graduate students in the College of Applied Health Sciences; College of Education; School of Social Work; School of Information Sciences; School of Labor & Employment Relations; and the Departments of American Indian Studies, Anthropology, Asian American Studies, Economics, Gender & Women's Studies, Geography and Geographic Information Science, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology. SSHEL includes seven library faculty, three classified staff, four part-time graduate assistants, and a team of undergraduate hourly student assistants. SSHEL develops and maintains subject-specific and special collections in a variety of formats to support the present and future information needs of these programs and related departments. Using an array of technologies and resources, SSHEL serves as a gateway to information for researchers on campus and at a distance. In conjunction with the mission of the University and Library policies, SSHEL extends its collections and services to individuals in the State of Illinois and beyond.
Salary and Rank: The budgeted salary range for this open-rank faculty position is $65,000 to $75,000 and is commensurate with credentials and experience. The University of Illinois Library is committed to competitive salaries and attending to equity in compensation within the organization.
Librarians have faculty rank, and must demonstrate excellence in librarianship, research, and university/professional/community service in order to meet university standards for tenure and promotion. Library faculty have an obligation to remain professionally informed, to pursue the discovery of new knowledge related to their field of expertise, to disseminate the results of their scholarly work, and to seek opportunities for service to the Library, campus, state, nation and profession. Terms of Appointment: Twelve-month appointment; 24 annual vacation days; 11 annual paid holidays; 12 annual sick-leave days (cumulative), plus an additional 13 sick-leave days (non-cumulative) available, if needed, each year; health insurance requiring a small co-payment is provided to employee (with the option to purchase coverage for spouse and dependents); required participation in State Universities Retirement System (SURS) (8% of annual salary is withheld and is refundable upon termination), with several options for participation in additional retirement plans; newly-hired employees are covered by the Medicare portion of Social Security and are subject to its deduction.
